Catch Memories Not Just Fish.

Within our waters live the oldest stories and the most patient teachers — the sea gives AND the sea asks for respect in return.

We believe that fishing in patience with the ocean is the key to unforgettable days and a healthier reef.
Grouper Fishing began on the jetty at Ambalangoda, where generations of fishing families have read the tides by feel. We started with one boat, a handful of hand lines and a simple idea: share the south coast's waters with travellers the way locals have always known them — unhurried, respectful and full of good stories.
Today our captains take small groups out on reef, trolling and big-game trips. Every outing is led by someone who grew up on this coastline, knows where the fish are feeding and cares about the reef we'll all be fishing tomorrow. Whether you're holding a rod for the first time or chasing a personal best, you'll have the gear, the guidance and plenty of laughter.
Experience authentic rod fishing along Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Guided by local captains, every trip includes rods, tackle, safety equipment, and guidance for all experience levels.
Daily morning and sunset charters from Ambalangoda. Beginners and families welcome.
Glassy morning waters and light northeast winds provide ideal trolling conditions and over 20m underwater visibility.
12 to 18 nautical miles offshore. Dramatic depth changes from 50m down past 1,000m create feeding grounds for pelagic schools.
Yellowfin tuna, skipjack, mahi-mahi, wahoo, and giant trevally. High-speed surface lures, poppers, and deep trolling.
From a gentle first cast on the reef to a full day of big-game trolling, choose the trip that fits your group. Book several trips and save.

“We set off from Ambalangoda harbour at 5:45 AM under starlight. Watching dawn break over the open sea with hot Ceylon tea in hand was pure magic. Within 40 minutes our reels were screaming! The captain knew every reef ledge and made sure both of us boated fish. Unrushed, safe, and deeply respectful of the ocean.”
“I fish all over the world and was blown away by the crew's professionalism. Heavy-duty Shimano gear in flawless condition, live bait well prepped, and sharp attention to safety on the continental shelf drop-off. Landed my personal best GT! The captain even arranged for a beach cafe to grill a portion of our reef catch that evening.”
“Neither of us had ever fished, so we booked the snorkeling and inshore reef trip. The underwater visibility was unreal — we swam alongside three huge green sea turtles and saw vibrant coral fans. The crew were so gentle and patient, constantly checking on us and sharing local stories. An absolute dream day on the water.”
“Took our 14 and 16-year-old boys out. The crew gave a thorough safety briefing, showed the boys how to read the birds and current lines, and made sure everyone landed fish. The boat was clean, comfortable, and stocked with cold drinking water and fresh pineapple. The boys haven't stopped talking about it since!”
“The golden hour light across the southern coast is something photos can't capture. Super calm sea, incredible sunset reflections, and continuous action on the bottom rigs. Caught a beautiful Grouper right before dusk. Professional, warm hospitality that made us feel like family from minute one.”
“What stood out most was their respect for the marine sanctuary. Zero plastic in the water, ethical release of breeding fish, and genuine care for the reefs. The crew’s passion for their ocean home is infectious. Best investment of our holiday in Ambalangoda. Already planning to return next season.”

Yes. The reef and lagoon trips stay close to shore and are a gentle introduction. Ask us for tips on the day before.
Absolutely, within reason. We practise catch-and-release for trophy and breeding fish, and are happy to help you prepare the rest to take home or enjoy ashore.
